SaraDriver(bornDecember15,1955)isanAmericanindependentfilmmakerfromWestfield,NewJersey.AparticipantintheindependentfilmscenethatflourishedinlowerManhattanfromthelate1970sthroughthe1990s,shegainedinitialrecognitionasproduceroftwoearlyfilmsbyJimJarmusch,PermanentVacation(1980)andStrangerThanParadise(1984).Driverhasdirectedtwofeaturefilms,Sleepwalk(1986)andWhenPigsFly(1993),aswellasanotableshortfilm,YouAreNotI(1981),andadocumentary,BoomForReal:TheLateTeenageYearsofJean-MichelBasquiat(2018),ontheyoungartist'spre-famelifeintheburgeoningdowntownNewYorkartsscenebeforethecity'smassivechangesthroughthe1980s.Sheservedonthejuriesofvariousfilmfestivalsthroughoutthe2000s.[1]

Driverhasbeencreditedwithcoiningthephrase"necro-tourism"afterthesurgeintourisminNewYorkduetothefalloftheWorldTradeTowersin2001.[2]
