Kennyhasdevelopedareputationforplayingrealpeople,reflectingauthenticAsianstories.InMidway(2019),heplaystheheroicyoungschoolteacherZhuXuesaninruralChinaduringWWII.HealsoleadstheindiedramaAShotThroughtheWall(2020),asaChineserookiecopinNYCwhoaccidentallykillsaBlackman-inspiredbythegrandjuryindictmentofPeterLiangin2015.HealsoplaysSgtEddieChen,thebelovedplatoonleaderofthemenatthecenterofthetragiceventsofTheLongRoadHome(2017).
